From Acorns to Oaks - Rooted in Nature, Rising in Strength

Staffordshire Bushcraft CIC is a community-focused organisation dedicated to reconnecting people with nature through traditional bushcraft, survival skills, and outdoor education. Rooted in the wild landscapes of Staffordshire, we provide inclusive, hands-on experiences that build resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Our programmes are designed to be accessible to all, including those facing life challenges, trauma, or mental health struggles—using nature as a powerful tool for recovery, learning, and growth.

As a Community Interest Company, our mission goes beyond teaching skills; we aim to create lasting social impact. Through workshops, courses, and community events, we support veterans, young people, and vulnerable groups in finding purpose and healing outdoors. Whether it’s lighting a fire, building a shelter, or simply sitting in stillness beneath the trees, we believe bushcraft can transform lives—one experience at a time.

Founder

Michael "Mick" Vaughan

Mick Vaughan is the passionate founder of Staffordshire Bushcraft CIC, bringing a lifetime of lived experience, resilience, and heart to the woods. As a veteran, Mick understands the challenges of transitioning to civilian life and the importance of finding purpose, routine, and connection beyond service. His deep bond with the natural world grew from personal healing and a desire to offer others the same refuge. Now facing a courageous fight against cancer, Mick’s mission has only deepened—he continues to lead with strength, vulnerability, and unwavering dedication to those around him.

Through Staffordshire Bushcraft CIC, Mick has created more than just a place to learn survival skills—it’s a safe, welcoming community where people of all backgrounds can reconnect with nature, with themselves, and with one another. Whether guiding veterans through shelter-building, teaching families to forage, or offering a quiet space for reflection beneath the trees, Mick shares not just knowledge, but hope. His story is woven into every campfire lit and every path walked—reminding us that healing, growth, and resilience are all possible when we return to the land.
