Step back in time and rediscover the ancestral skills of wild waters with Billy Souter from Billy Souter Primitive Living, in this immersive course focused on primitive fishing instruments and tool making. This hands-on weekend will guide you through the creation and use of traditional tools crafted from wood, bone, stone, and plant fibres—offering a deep dive into the practical knowledge our ancestors once relied on for survival.
Under Billy’s expert instruction, you’ll learn how to make gorge hooks, bone and wood fish hooks, and fish spears, as well as weave your own functional fishing nets using natural cordage. You'll also explore how to construct fish traps and understand tracking and fish behavior to increase your chances of success. Each skill is grounded in ethical harvesting and a respect for the land, as Billy shares stories and techniques passed down through generations. Whether you're passionate about bushcraft, experimental archaeology, or simply want to reconnect with elemental ways of living, this course offers a rare opportunity to craft your own toolkit for wild fishing—entirely from the landscape itself.
